Jean-Philippe Cointet
Jean-Philippe Cointet works on the development of innovative methods in computational sociology. Specializing in text analysis, he works on different types of corpus and sources, and questions the socio-political dynamics underlying them. His areas of research are varied: social media analysis (Facebook publications and public comments), scientometrics (data feedback in oncology), mapping of political processes (political discourse, international negotiations), and framing analysis (media coverage of migration processes).
Towards generative social sciences?
In this presentation, we will offer a critical and structured overview of the new applications that major language models are generating in the social sciences. In particular, we distinguish between work that focuses on the uses of AI in society, studies that exploit AI as a way of augmenting researchers' capabilities, and finally the uses of AI as a new instrument and source for investigating social, political and cultural phenomena.
